What is a Batizado?
A Batizado is a ceremony where new students are symbolically introduced into the worldwide Capoeira community. Capoeiristas (people who play capoeira) from around the world and with varying levels of experience come together to teach and welcome students. In addition to receiving the first belt (corda), participants spend the long weekend learning about music, dance and health in the many mini-workshops. The batizado is not a competition, but rather a special long weekend of events filled with positive community activities, knowledge sharing, and appreciation of this beautiful art form.
